about

ElectroBloom concludes with a piano sonata that acts as an epilogue to the narrative. Composed over the summer of 2016-2017, it uses the Classical sonata form in all three movements. The primary themes were composed using a variation of the Japanese Insen scale.

I. Allegro

The allegro begins with a rubato introduction, establishing the use of the Insen scale in the first subject of the exposition. It transitions through several different modal areas before modulating up into the dominant scale degree. Here the second subject is established before arriving at a majestic harmonic major peak and closing with a pointed cadence.

The development continues in the dominant mode and sees the transition from the exposition return albeit in an altered state. The quintuplet figure established in the rubato introduction follows, modulating the development back into the tonic mode and commencing the recapitulation. The allegro’s final cadence creates contrast to the exposition by closing the movement with two quiet chords
