Optimism - Vanessa Voyez
Borrowed dreams have carried me
Filled my sails with air
I'll chase an endless summer
I'll live without a care
I'm navigating by the stars
My eyes are on the sky
I'm counting down the seconds
'Till it's time for me to fly
I knew this day was coming
I never had a doubt
That all my hopes and plans and dreams
Would happily play out
I cut the ribbon of my youth
It flutters to the floor
This brand's open for business
I open the first door

DISAPPOINTMENT - Vanessa Voyez
Facets of life, those tiny grains of sand, laid down over time
Hardened under pressure, forming the bluff with which I face the world, and its cold raging storms
Layers formed in times long past draw lines across this sheer stone face
Hard, seemingly impossible
Yet bit by bit, grain by grain, the unrelenting waves tear me down.
Many invitations but few attendees
It's not like I've got a contagious disease
Do they want me to get down on my knees, begging please, please..? Not me.
Is it something I wore, is it something I said, did I step in something dead?
Did I let it get to my head, should I have worn lucky red instead? I just want to go to bed
Self doubt eats away like a termite
Bit by bit with tiny little bites
Until you are a shell

DESPAIR - Vanessa Voyez
I see seeds from the same tree sprouting
I see sprouts from the same seeds growing
But I've started doubting
That I'll ever get it going
I see seeds from the same tree sprouting
I see sprouts from the same seeds growing
But I've started doubting
That I'll ever get it going
The dreams that were stillborn
Must be repaid with interest
An interest that I'm rapidly losing
I see seeds from the same tree sprouting
I see sprouts from the same seeds growing
But I've started doubting
That I'll ever get it going
Was it the poorness of the soil
Could it be the lack of rain
That doomed me not to make any gain
‘Or am I just a bad seed?

ACCEPTANCE - Lucy Kong
Silent tears crystallised within the glacial state of mind
Where pain is numbed
A frigid confine, encasing dreams in a tomb of cold
Quiet
Inanimate
Calm in its predictability
Still as the grains of sand beneath distant waves
I am still
A stillness without serenity
A silent nothingness
Resigned from uncertainty now dwelling in naught
A never changing landscape of white, its beauty locked up tight
Sealed away from misadventure, devoid of joy
Preserving the core
Yet here in the comfort of nothing I mourn colour
Outside the stillness of my icebox Earth dances in step with Time
I am still, it is ever onward
The beautiful, haunting, healing, torturous seasons of life encircle me
And I am powerless to stop it
Shall I resign myself to its rhythm?
Different shades of light reveal fractures of colour
The shattered expectations cut deep veins of beauty within me
As clouds part revealing the brilliance of the Son
I thaw

CONTROL IS AN ILLUSION - Vanessa Voyez and Lucy Kong
What’s the key to standing firm and strong through anything?
What’s the key to gaining back some piece of mind?
In the world you’ll find that things aren’t what they ought to be
They ought to be
I’ve tried to find it, tried to be free
I’ve tried to find it, tried to believe
When the day’s done and they’ve got you on the run
You wonder where’d it all go wrong
Clear the smokescreen, hit the lights and you will see
The pure illusions of control
You can play me for a fool and burn your effigies
You can blame and criticism me all you like
Took some time but now I see it don’t rule over me
Rule over me
I’ve tried to find it, tried to be free
I’ve tried to fight it, tried to believe
When the day’s done and they’ve got you on the run
You wonder where’d it all go wrong
Clear the smokescreen, hit the lights and you will see
The pure illusions of control
Life seemed to be passing by
All the dreams I chased had died
Does it have to be this way?
Now I understand
Bending life has broken me
How can I be free?
Time to let go
